The Family Fishing Derby is an independent fundraising event organized to help local families with children facing cancer. The 7th Annual Family Fishing Derby in 2016 is organized by JCI Kootenay, an organization of young individuals dedicated to making themselves and their communities better, along with help from many other community members and long time Derby supporters.

Proceeds from the event support local children and families facing cancer through the Canadian Cancer Society’s support programs. Local families can contact the Society or visit the Kootenay offices to receive financial support travelling to treatment, accommodation, and transportation to treatment. The Society also operates Camp Goodtimes, a medically supervised, fun recreational experience for children with cancer and their families.

A portion of proceeds also help local children with cancer attend the derby as well as help one local family each year travel to Disneyland for a much deserved vacation from cancer treatment.
The derby in uniquely special to the Kootenay region as it rallies Kootenay communities together, provides an opportunity for some outdoor fun, and helps local families in their time of need. Join us Family Day at Horseshoe Lake for some Kootenay fun!
